Ok, so how big are those snakes? And, do any of them live together? Lastly, do they get along, or do they live sad, lonely lives?

Some types of snakes are communal, some aren't. 3 is the lowest number of snakes I've had in years...but back when I had several, they always got seperate setups. It's just not worth the risk. "Pinkerton" in particular...that guy was pricey. He's a "Blizzard" Corn Snake...I bought him has a 9" hatchling 4 years ago for $55. He's now 4 1/2 feet long. Plus he freakin' Pink mang, c'mon. How cool is that?

Oh yeah...Carl is about a foot and a half, I've had him since 2001. And Baxter is always curled up in a ball, so it's hard to measure him, but I'd venture a guess of 2'. He was a big of a rescue operation. His old owner couldn't get him to eat for 6 months, and heard of my reptiles, so he was given to me, setup and all.

I got him to eat in two weeks :)

Yep, the Corn is the Albino. He's got a light sort of milky Pink coloration, hence the name "Pinkerton." They get to about 6' or so, and he's at 4 1/2'. He's got a bit to go, but he's by no means a baby.

I started out with Garter snakes. I would suggest those as a good beginner snake. They're hearty, eat a wide variety of stuff, easy to take care of, don't get too huge, and tame down very nice. I had one that would follow me around the house. :)

The mice thing can be tough. I've been feeding mice to my snakes since I was in grade school, but my girlfriend still get's a little "awww" when I happen to feed a "cute" one to 'em. I don't blame her....but that's life, they've gotta eat.

Bahamas...I took a week off and went for my bday. First few days alone and then my girlies met me up for the weekend. My Sunday flight home into Chicago got canceled due to the weather here so I didn't get in till late Tuesday night, so I was stuck there a few extra days. we all had so much fun at our last wii get-together (we have a small tight-night group of friends that are like family) that we wanted to throw another...and this time i jokingly spread around the word that "athletic attire" was required. and it snowballed into this huge event. i didn't think that they would all take me seriously but when they got into their "uniforms" they were all wearing matching extremely tight shorts and shirts and there was man junk hanging out all over the place. it was so great. matt barfed twice (y)

Some new world species take their back legs and rub their abdomen, thus releasing their hair into the air. The hair is small and barbed...so when it gets into your lungs, it catches, much like a fishing hook. It's not fun, and if it gets on your skin, it feels like fiber glass :(

A friend of ours used to have a Chilean Rose Tarantula. I never held it but i found it fascinating to look at. I'm not a huge fan of spiders but i quite like tarantulas because they move quite slowly (apart from when they hunt i guess? Not too up on my spidey knowledge!)
My main fear of spiders comes from how quick the buggers dart from one side of the room to another.

Thanks! They happen to be my favorite type of spider...the Blue is just beautiful. When people think of tarantulas, they tend to think of dull colors...Browns and Blacks. But tarantulas come in every color spectrum, with the more elaborate colors tending to be the most expensive.

Rosies are the most common tarantula. Online, if you know where you look, you can get an adult female for $5. But in most pet shops if you see a tarantula for sale...it's probably a Rosie. Sadly 9/10 times pet stores don't care for their spiders (or animals in general) properly, and they'll over price them. The same $5 Rosie online may end up costing you $50 in the store. High. Way. Robbery.

Nah...they don't have names. They don't know tricks. I don't take them on walks. They're just very interesting to me, and I've just been fascinated with invertebrates since childhood. So no....I don't love them :)

Oh you know, just the idea of there being lots of huge spiders concealed and stuff. I think yours are beautiful but I am terrified of spiders. We got a tarantula once at the shelter I volunteer at and I wanted to hold it but it just freaked me out too much. The lady at the zoo that came to get it actually told me a lot of things about tarantulas that I didn't know.

i basically just toppled it onto its side, pulled the pieces of bread out, and re-stacked them to a size i could manage, and covered it with russian dressing. so i ended up with 4 sandwiches and about a pound of meat to take home and eat the next morning.
