I have a few things from Mexico that some of you might find interesting.
The following article is from a Mexican music magazine called Sonika (http://www.revistasonika.com). It's a review of the Beastie Boys' Long Island concert. Perhaps someone who is fluent in Spanish will volunteer to translate it.

To read the magazine's article about the cancellation of the Latin American tour (in Spanish), go to its web site (http://www.revistasonika.com/articulos.php?id_sec=4&id_art=756&id_ejemplar=). The graphic with the article is *cough* amusing.
After being in Mexico City, I can safely say that the shows were not cancelled for lack of promotion. Everywhere in the city were posters touting the Pageant Tour.
These pics were taken in the upscale shopping district of the city:

The pic below was taken at a city park:

Pootytang asked me to rip some of those posters off the streets for him, but it wasn't possible. They were glued down with some super Mexican paste. I did, however, manage to score one flat poster from the kind gentleman working the Ticketmaster counter at a record store. All I had to do to get it was flash my charming smile. :p
All the record stores had Beastie Boys promo posters and were stocked properly with CDs in preparation for the shows:

I got the distinct impression that the people of Mexico were ready to open their arms and welcome the Beastie Boys, which makes the show cancellations all the more sad. I think the Beastie Boys would have really enjoyed Mexico. Everyone I met there was super. I loved how complete strangers said "Good day" to one another passing each other on the street.
Finally, always on the lookout for the unique Beastie Boys collectible, I found this Day of the Dead diorama at a market in the city's center:
