Here's an excursion for y'all. Check out Princess Superstar's song "Bad Girls NYC" on her new album My Machine. She does the "To All the Girls" rapspeak in the song's intro.

A RealAudio stream of the song is available at !K7 Records (http://www.k7.com/data.pl?track=DE-G93-05-00318). (Click on the "Play Track" icon then the "skip registration" link, unless you want to register.) The stream, however, doesn't really do the song justice. The track is available at iTMS if you're really interested.

As an interesting note, My Machine is produced by Arthur Baker, who, if you know your Beastie Boys history, gave Adam Yauch one of his first jobs as an assistant in his studio. They recorded the song "Drum Machine" together. The Beastie Boys almost signed to Baker's Streetwise label, but chose Def Jam instead.

There's no story. The label sent me a promo copy a while back. I just recently listened to it and recognized the Beastie Boys song in the intro.

I'm surprised folks here aren't more familiar with Princess Superstar. Critics often compare her to the Beastie Boys because of her oddball style and sense of humor. She is an established hip-hop artist and DJ who is based in NYC. Perhaps you've heard of DJs Are Not Rockstars (http://www.djsarenotrockstars.com)? That's Princess Superstar with scratch DJ Alexander Technique.

PS is most well known for the song that Brittany mentioned, "Bad Babysitter," which is probably the worst song in her catalog. It's her "Fight for Your Right," in the sense that it doesn't really represent her overall work or abilities. It's more of a parody song.

A lot of PS' rhymes are wicked funny. She's got a lot of attitude to boot. One of my favorite songs of hers is "Kool Keith's Ass" (on Last of the Great 20th Century Composers), which begins with a recorded conversation between PS and Kool Keith. She tries to convince him to allow her to put a pic of his ass on her album cover. She tells him that she likes to "celebrate the ass" and needs to "break through the ass boundary." It's clear that he had no idea the conversation was being recorded by the way he replies. It's funny stuff. Especially if you know anything about Kool Keith.
