Awww! Mike D and his son Davis want to help end hunger. *hugs for them* The two have created a personalized lunchbox for a charity auction appropriately called The Lunchbox Auction (http://www.thelunchboxauction.org). The auction benefits two hunger relief organizations (info about the organizations is listed on the auction site).
According to the information on eBay, the auction for the father & son lunchbox design ends October 31.
And look! Pooty has begun the bidding. *hugs for Pooty*

It's more like a tofu pup on a wholewheat bun, a bag of mini carrots, and a bottle of POM Wonderful.

Mike D's is so bad, it might be good. Diddy's & Sean Paul's are excellent, I also like Daze's. But check out Helena Christensen for weirdness. I've got *hugs* for Helena.

that box by daze is bad ass.
i know it was co-designed by a three year old, but the mike d lunchbox is kinda disappointing. but it'd still be cool to own since it was painted by mike d an' all.

The idea behind the lunchboxes seems to be escaping some of you. It's for charity -- to help children eat. I can't believe anyone would criticize Mike and his son's contribution. What's wrong with you?
I think it's a beautiful design. Moreover, I think a father and son doing something together to help people in need is a beautiful act.
I'd be damn proud to carry that lunchbox around -- not just because Mike created it, but because it represents people helping one another.

I'm sure it's a challenge to decorate a metal box in a permanent way. It's a good cause, but most of them look as if all the decoration will rub off quite quickly. I think the bids would be higher if the boxes looked more durable.
It will be quite fun to watch as the end of the auction nears.

Thanks for the scoop M!
But why isn't this info. officially listed on here somewhere?
I also believe the b-boys worked with this charity several years ago. Maybe 1999...Does this ring a bell with anyone? Maybe Minton or tpk can confirm or clarify.

The Diddy box has a bid of $1200 right now and it's not even close to the end of the auction.I guess if Mike had put some effort into it, he could have raised a lot more money for charity.
I mean, I would have loved to see the look on the people from the charity's face when they recieved that back from Mike and saw what he produced. "Oh how cute,...he let his toddler son scribble on it. THANKS A LOT MIKE!!!"

Although fundraising is an important aspect of the online auction, it is serving another important purpose: raising awareness.
How many of you were familiar with the Food Bank for NYC or The Lunchbox Fund before I pointed you to look at the auction? Would you have bothered to look if I had posted "Hey, look at this auction!" instead of "Hey, look at this auction Mike is involved with!"? It's Mike's involvement, which draws the interest of and educates others about hunger relief, that's really important.
As far as raising money, you need not worry that the two organizations will not do well from the auction. The auction kicked off with a celebrity-attended party at the Wooster Projects Gallery (http://www.woosterprojects.com/lunchbox.htm) in NYC, where four of the lunchboxes were auctioned and purchased by celebrities. Chris Martin bought Michael Stipe's lunchbox for $20,000.
I bet my booty that most of the celebrities who designed lunchboxes put a check inside the box when they turned in their designs.

I'll bet my Booty that Chris Martin and every other celebrity who donates $20 grand to charity does it partly because they have an Accountant telling them to do so, for Tax purposes...and let's not forget it's good publicity for a public figure such as Chris Martin.
I'm not as cynical about celebrities as you are. I like to believe that they get involved in charitable works because they honestly care and because they are in a position to get involved. I'm more inclined to believe Chris Martin bid $20,000 because he's a father who loves his child and doesn't want to see any child go hungry than believe he bought a lunchbox for publicity or a tax break. Being a celebrity doesn't make you less human than everyone else.
Do you think the Beastie Boys organized the Tibetan Freedom Concerts for publicity? Was Bob Geldof seeking publicity when he staged Live Aid? What's the criteria for judging who's sincere and who's not? I think you have to give people the benefit of the doubt and believe it's straight from the heart.
P.S. Chris Martin doesn't need publicity. His band is suffering from overexposure.

Davis D (Mikes son, for anyone who didnt notice his name) has done a very interesting design. Its easy for mike.
'Oi Davis, get a paint brush and randomly paint this tin box'
I like Fleas box, and sean pauls one.
Bobby Flay's is the best one by far.
