Re: Ft Lauderdale show

Really good show tonight! The crowd was hyped and gave off great energy to the Boys, and the Boys responded. The Beastie's took the stage around 9:20, and kicked things off with Root Down. Highlights for me were: High Plains Drifter, Somethings Got to Give and Intergalactic. Before they jumped in to High Plains they dedicated it to "all the people who came from far away" by either plane, bus, train etc...It went down really well. Somethings Got to Give just sounded great cuz the Yauch's basslines were enormous. The bass wasn't loud enough during Sabrosa and Ricky's Theme while he was on the upright. The crowd loved Paul Revere (just like every other town)! And Intergalactic was rockin' and almost brought the place down. They ended up in the middle level, and MMM had started Intergalactic, but had to stop and start it again, cuz the Beastie's hadn't arrived at their spot yet. So the Beastie's started singing and the people right below the Boys didn't even know they were there til Yauch started tapping people on the head to get them to turn around. But it was HUGE! And of course quite a few people left after Intergalactic and missed Gratitude and Sabotage. All in all it was a great night, better energy from the crowd than what I experienced at the Atlanta show a few days earlier. Maybe cuz the Boys haven't been here really since 94 Lollapalooza the crowd went nuts. The gig at Crobar doesn't count, I'm talking a full arena size gig. Going to catch them tomorrow in Tampa so we'll see how that compares. Here's the setlist, correct order:

1. Root Down
2. Triple Trouble
3. Sure Shot
4. Egg man
5. Skills to Pay the Bills
6. Time to Get Ill
7. Super Disco Breakin'
8. High Plains Drifter
9. Shake Your Rump
10. MMM Solo
11. Sabrosa
12. Ricky's Theme
13. Something's Got to Give
14. AOLTNYC
15. Body Movin'
16. Paul Revere
17. RRNN
18. 3 Mc's & 1 DJ
19. Brass Monkey
20. So Whatcha Want
21. Intergalactic
Encore
22. Gratitude
23. Sabotage

I was really surprised that the show was not sold out. The crowd more than made up for the poor attendance and it was a great show. They had me laughing and bobbing my head. The tiki hut instrumental was awesome and their powder blue tuxedos cracked me up. Brass Monkey was great and I laughed when all the lugnuts left after Intergalactic. It was great that they performed Intergalactic in the crowd. They missed a great close with Gratitude and Sabotage.I saw them in '86 open for Run DMC and this show was equally entertaining. I have to put it in my top 10 concerts. I wish I could make the 3 1/2 hour trek to Tampa for a second helping. I can't get out of work obligations. DAMN! Enjoy the Tampa show.

I don't know, it was a pretty decent size crowd. The seats looked filled except for the top level, which I don't think they sold tix for. And as for the GA, they don't sell tickets to fill the whole floor. But yes, great crowd, great energy.

Cranks, What about that dog show? That was pretty funny.

Re: Ft Lauderdale show: my take on the show

First off, don't ever tell me the boys don't have the same energy to perform as they used to. This show made the Hello Nasty tour look like a Girl Scout Meeting. On point.

Highlights for me: Being DEAD FRONT AND CENTER for most of the show (I'll explain why in a minute). Second time in less than 2 months I've had this view and it was great.

MMM came out and was taping the dog show on his camcorder. Of course, no one but me recognized him so when he was a few feet away I quietly said, "Mixmaster" in my best Adrock impression. He looked over and gave me a smile and then he turned his camcorder on me and some other dudes up front! As he was walking away, I got some snaps from him which was great.

I don't know if you caught it, but right before Adrock went into his rhyme on Root Down he opened his mouth and a burp accidentally jumped out! He giggled but kept on his lines and you hear Mike go, "Did you just burp?" and he was laughing and trying to keep cool. Not everyone could have picked up on this.

Eggman and High Plains Drifter were great. High Plains! A personal high point was when they chilled and broke out the instruments. I felt like I was at a prom from BH 90210. The lighting was fantastic and the tuxedos were great. It was really intimate! Adrock's dance moves were fly and I've never been so happy to see Yauch standing still! With some fly shades, he was right on. Somethings Got to Give was outstanding as well.

Some comments on the crowd:

Got to meet some great fans waiting in line early. Met "Finkasaurus" and some other posters on here that were cool. However, I have no desire to ever enter the town of Ft. Lauderdale again. Too many fucked up rednek hillbillies. Seriously, they came out of the wood work.

Too many meat heads. For those bitching about the stopping of crowd surfing and shit, that was the boys themselves. They tried to stop it. You know why? It's stupid. This ain't lollapalooza and I'm not in the Evenflow video so get off it. If you're really young, sorry you aren't growing up ten years ago, but it's over. There were three 13 year old girls who could barely get their chin over the rail and one of em bit the rail when some 200 lb guy landed on her head and I couldn't hold him off of her.

Also, I could've killed this bitch behind me. First she was pissed off because she got there at 7:15 and me and a guy next time wouldn't let her squeeze in front of us on the rail. She then made it a point to harass me all night! Now I know how women must feel at times.

She kept trying to weasel in front of me and was just bitching all night. Finally, I'm like, look that's my wife in front of me, and I'm not moving, so find somewhere else. Then, the bitch just rode my ass all night. Literally, she was jacking up on me and rubbing all over me, copping a feel and shit to try to start a fight with my old lady I guess. She kept putting her hands right around me and right in front of my eyes to piss me off and she kept yelling "yeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah" in a loud ass dude frat voice and shit. It was really making my show shittier. If it had been a dude, I would've punched him in the eye and I'm non-violent. All I could do though was stomp her on the birckenstocks, which I did, and she felt it. I mean, I ground down with my STeve Maddens right through her foot. She finally moved later.

LOW POINT (CRAZY FUCKED UP POINT) -

First, I'm fucking hot, it's warm. Second, I'm dehydrating and I've been awake since 7am. Got 4 hours sleep the night before. Getting weak.

Wifey's in front of me doing her thing and were about two people from the rail now.

Next thing I know, boom, there goes wifey. She's a little girl and she just couldn't take the heat any more (literally). She just slumped down in the middle of the crowd. I thought she had dropped something and was picking it up and then I realized she wasn't coming back up. She passed out!

I picked her up in one arm and I'm trying to get the guards attention to help me get her the fuck out of there. He grabs her over and she told me she started coming to while he was hauling her over. Then, I had to yell at a second dude to grab me over as well. By that time, she was on her feet, but had no clue what was going on. By the time the guy could get my ass over th gate, some meat head was trying to take my wife around the barrier and push her back into the masses. She didn't even know where she was!

I'm like fuck that man, and he started yelling at me and was like, "you're going back" and I'm like no way, you can't put her back out there. He wouldn't listen. Luckily, this big black dude ( he must have been with bboy security, all black clothing, black skull cap, not in event uniform) saw me arguing and he came over to help the other guy. When I told him what happened he's like, "cool" and got us into some seats that were roped off up front. Wifey had to chill but at least I got to party up the rest of the set.

She ended up being fine but it was really fucked up.

Thanks again to the bboys security dude, thanks to all of the cool fans, thanks to the boys, and thanks for reading this long ass post.

What a harrowing concert experience! I'm sorry you had to deal with all that ish at a Beastie Boys show. I'm glad your wife is okay.

And the poor 13-year-old girl who bit the rail when someone landed on her.. :( Makes me feel bad for that one time I dove off a stage back in the early 90's. :o

Actually, no mishap could have affected my time. When they pulled me over after my wife, I actually paused a second to look at the bboys from a few feet closer! The show was dope, just a crazy night altogether! We'll have some laughs about it when we see the Hello Again Nasty Tour in 2024!

Earl was real cool. Tell him I said thanks if you get a chance.

Actually though, the venue staff was alright for the most part. The guy was just doing his job, but he didn't know it was a special circumstance.

Props to you for going to both the Atl and Lauderdale. Glad to see someone else on here knows that the crowd is an important part of the show. Was it general admission on the floor?

My point exaactly. If the bboys were really against it they would stop General admission shows and put reserved seats on the floor. Everyone else in the "tame" genre that plays the locations they are playing does that. Time to put their money where their mouth is.

Well dude, I disagree.

The boys stopped the show and asked people not to do it when Mike saw the little girl bite the rail.

I'd rather have an open floor where I can dance move and party, but I don't want the epsilon theta pledge class jumping on my head cause they're at a show where they only know one song.

Moshing and crowd surfing were a fad and it's a dead fad. Aks your momma and daddy. They weren't doing the twist in the disco in 76! Get with it meat!

I was at the show last night. EXCELLENT. I was very happy they did 3 PB songs. For those that were there, the yellow shirts they were wearing at the end: MCA's shirt said AGLIO E OLIO. I couldn't make out what Mike D & Ad Rock's shirts said. Anyone???

That was by far one of the best shows I've ever seen. It was also the first show I dressed up as a beastie boys cheerleader with poms poms and everything! LOL...definitely one of the most fun concerts I've been to. The best part was when Mike D pointed me out and said "I like that" :D and then later on in the show Adrock pointed me out as well. Great show, great energy, loved it!

You can't have it both ways my man. Either general admission and some people get hurt (as the wife did in the post above) or put down seats ala recent concerts at similar venues (Madonna, Gloria Estafan, Dixie Chicks, Elton John, etc.) and ensure safety.

Re: Ft Lauderdale show

The Ft. Lauderdale show was off the fucking hook. I heard people say there was a poor turnout as far as the crowd, but let me be the first to say that those people are sooooo wrong. My roommate works at the Office Depot Center and he said there was only like 300 tickets left. That place holds like 20,000 or so people. That's fucking amazing for a show outside the city limits of Miami.

The Beasties did their damn thing. You could feel the energy change from Talib's set to the B-Boys set. It was wild, it seemed like the attendance more than doubled in 20 minutes time. I thought it was funny that they forgot the lyrics to Paul Revere, haha, that shit was hilarious man. Considering that song is like 20 years old I'm sure its not too hard to forget.

Anyways, I've been a loyal Beastie's fan for over a decade, and this show was by FAR the best I have EVER seen them perform live.

Oh, if anyone was down there and enjoyed that shit as much as I did, hit me up on the AIM- chances are we'll get along great. MIAMITOME is my screen name.

GO BEASTIES!
