I mean as a concept/idea it was incredible but the final product...hmmmmm....I throw it on every couple of months and rarely feel the same way about it.
Mixed emotions I guess,I like the tracks by Buffalo Daughter,Beck,Pavement(best on the disc) and Sean Lennon. Alot of the stuff by the pioneers of electronic beats sometimes work and sometimes don't. What really makes me curious is you had to know the Beasties had their hands on the groove box....what did they do with it? I mean "Countdown" sounds like it could have been done with just the 808 or a 909....what happened to the groove box and Tannis Root? It's like "Bangzilla" for me in that sometimes I can hear it and other times I just don't dig it... What do you think/know?

I remember totally looking forward to hearing the Groovebox album after about a year of rumors and hype. You can't go wrong with Cibo Matto, Air, Beck, Pavement, Sonic Youth, Sean Lennon, Buffalo Daughter, etc....but I felt let down after buying it. Some of the stuff is great....while others should have been told to submit something better. At least I have it on double vinyl.....

The Sonic Youth "song" is the worst on the album.
I also have the vinyl version ![]()

Mike D should have thrown Sonic Youth's submission in the trash....seriously...who can create a "song" like that and say to themselves..."Perfect. Sounds good to me....mail it to Grand Royal!" |
