Default Ugly Casanova, Junk Rock

If you're a fan of Modest Mouse then you probably know about Mr. Deck's side project, Ugly Casanova. I don't know if the story about their origin is true or not, what with a mysterious, crazy, angry, insane genius disappearing into thin air; but that's neither here nor there because the Ugly Casanova album is one of the best I've heard in a long time.

While Modest Mouse is typically pretty and melodic, Ugly Casanova has a rough, junky, sloppy sound. It's almost junk rock. When I say Junk rock I mean sloppy, rough, lazy rock.It could also be called blues, but low down blues, gravel in the guitar, pots and pans for dums, that kind of thing. It's like someone flooded the set of Sanford and Son and then recorded music in there. The album is called Sharpen Your Teeth. Any opinions on it? Does anyone know any other junk rock music?

Other artists with some junk in their sound

Captain Beefheart
Tom Waits
Iggy Pop / the stooges
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion
Howlin Wolf
Frank Zappa
The Violent Femmes (sometimes)

Bob Log III also sounds junky, haven't heard Doo Rag though. Has anyone?

Bob Log also has a good story involving an accident and a suprisingly successful monkey paw transplant.

seems so.

i'm not really into modest mouse too much, so it never seemed logical to check out a side project. sounds pretty cool though.

can you throw me a couple of the names of the best tracks from the album, and i will obtain them. in a strictly legal manner. of course.

they got the steely dan t-shirt...

Every single one of the songs on the Ugly Casanova album is worth listening to. Parasites, Spilled Milk Factory, Cat Faces, Ice on the Sheets. Just buy the album. Or copy the whole thing. It is der loverly.
