Talking Could Tom Morello be considered a DJ??

I mean...the sounds he does with a guitar are fucking awesome. Nobody does what he does. Some riffs didnt sound like a guitar riff. They sound like a DJ on a turntable. His solos are unique!!!! The solo on "Sleep Now In the Fire" and the intro riff on "The Year of Tha Boomerang" are good examples of a fucking creative guitarist.

It's easy to hear an RATM song and not let yourself go beyond Zach's thoughts and emotions. You can stop there easily and still be happy. But if you dive in a little more and dissect the song, listening to the various layers of it, you'll find that very distinctive, effective, perfect...mood. I think that was all Tom. He's amazing and he probably didn't get enough credit for how much he contributed to the whole RATM sound.

He could well have--I listened to their music in the 90s but I didn't follow them/reviews of them. It seems to me that most people know Zach's name but not Tom's. Did he ever get voted best anything by guitar magazines/groups?

EDITED:

"04/29/2001 Tom Wins a CMA!

It's a dynasty. For the fourth year in a row Tom Morello was voted Best Guitarist at the 24th Annual California Music Awards. Tom was presented his award by Oakland Mayor Jerry Brown. Tom also presented the Outstanding Punk/Ska Album which was won by Green Day."

At least one of his (4) prizes.

Now these are the kinds of threads I like to see. You make a valid point, Junker. Morello could very well be considered a DJ, IMO, though not in the traditional sense, of course. He's kind of got his own little scratch thing happening.

Oh yeah, to those of you lobbying for Morello, he has definitely gotten his share of recognition. I wouldn't worry about it if I were you, especially now because his work with Audioslave is overshadowing any post RATM projects by Zack. If anyone is underrated I would say it's RATM's rhythm section. Timmy C and Brad Wilk are tight as hell and are virtually nameless to many of the so-called RATM freaks.

This kid in my broadcasting class a few years ago said that Rage's DJ is fucking awesome, I had quite the laugh. I pointed out the note on their albums that says all sounds made from guitars, bass, drums, and vocals.

IMO Tom Morello is the 2nd best black guitarist ever.

to be honest when i first heard rage and didnt know too much about them when i was a youngin i thought they actually had a dj. i once told a kid who was saying all bands with djs suck that rage had one and he was like really no way.

but i think thats almost a complement to how good and creative tom is. (and how stupid a young kid can be)

but still, i want more rage now that i think about it...

Ironically they pity you too. I don't, for the close minded deserve it not.

There's more to DJing than scratching, it should be noted.

I don't have all of Rage's albums, but I've yet to hear him drop a decent breakbeat...

Well, the album Renegades has a lotta breakbeats. Take a look at the cover of "Renegades of Funk".

hahaha.....funny

And personally i dont think Tom is the "best", or second best guitarist ever. I mean, hes a fucking incredible guitarist, one of the (50??) best. But the title of most creative guitarist is his, for sure.

BTW, whos the one you consider the best??

Does it involve you without your pants and a guitar... That's what I thought.

Also guitars, totally not gangsta.
